Between 2020 and 2021, Christian Loriel Lucas interviewed young Black males around the city of Louisville, KY. Those conversations inspired the characters and monologues in Lucas' first play, The Black Boy Narratives. From musings on turtles and musical theater to the usurping of troublesome narratives about Black parents, these monologues are funny, heartwarming, and sometimes uncomfortable as the reader is reminded that every Black boy is, above all, human.
